He Believes in You Too

Someone who believes in you. There are few things in this world that top that experience. Whether it’s a teacher who saw your potential or a coach who stayed late to help, these figures bring us a sense of empowerment and worthiness that all of us crave.

It’s quite amazing what happens when we’re believed in. I think back to a baseball coach I had when I was younger, there was never a day I stepped on the field that I questioned whether he believed in me. The freedom that allowed me to play with was so refreshing. It didn’t matter whether I was striking out, making errors, or getting down, he always pumped me up and encouraged me.

I was talking to the Lord the other night and I was bringing up some things to Him for what must have been the 100th time. There was this sense I got that He must be getting tired of me bringing this up, complaining, and staying complacent. After bringing that thought to Him, I had this sense – I will never give up on you.

It hit me, the lens I often view God through is one where He is constantly shaking His head in disappointment, annoyed and tired every time that I knock on His door. But how far is that from our loving Father.

We’re told that God will complete the good work that He started (Philippians 1:6). In Jeremiah, it’s said, “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3). And in Hebrews, “I will never leave you or abandon you” (Hebrews 13:5).

Friend, I don’t know where you’re at with the Lord, but can I remind you in the same way the Lord reminded me, He is more interested in you becoming who He made you to be than you are. His love for you does not diminish because you’ve taken the long way around. He does not deal with us in the same way we deal with others. His love is holy and pure, meaning it’s set apart and outside our understanding.

Paul tells us that it’s his desire that we all would understand how wide, high, deep and long God’s love is for us though it’s too great for us to fully understand (Ephesians 3:18-19). There’s a song by Hillsong United called As You Find Me. There’s a line that says, “Your love’s too good to leave me here.” I needed to hear that the other day and maybe you do too.

Now, the way He gets you out of wherever “here” is for you can take the form of many things. And it may not be an easy thing that gets you to move, but know that God is with you and it’s His desire for you to grow in maturity as His son or daughter.

Whether you find yourself going on and on about unfairness and lack in your current situation or you’re riding high on newfound provision and breakthrough, God is not going to leave you. He is simply too good and loves you too much to stop growing, shaping, and maturing you. Yes, He asks us to put our faith in Him, but know this friend – God believe in you too.
